Random Race: Mariel (Art Project)

Ok, so I took two months off. Considering the race this time, I want to see if I can promote this through some mermaid groups too.

The Mariel are the creation of Maris, the elemental Goddess of Water, and are incarnated with the souls of Undine, thus granting them the ability for water elementalism. They are a predominantly aquatic race, with the exception of one year of their life which they transform to a biped to mingle with their cousins on land, allowing them to maintain a connection between them and the rest of the world.

The Mariel appear similar to their cousin races, at least in their upper body. They are of a slim, lithe build and delicate featured with long, tapered ears. They grow hair, which is quite unnatural for an undersea creature, and their skin remains unaffected by water, though faint scales have appeared down their backs, over their breastbones and shoulders and along the arms during the course of evolution. On the ribs, beneath the breasts and pectoral muscles, are wide gills. The Mariel can breath through their gills or breath air from the surface through their noses—which are usually sealed by a piece of flesh underwater. Their tails are the length of human legs and tapper down to a narrow point after which a pair of sturdy, broad fins flair out. Tails come in a variety of vibrant colors like the native fishes. As for other coloration, their skin commonly of a tanned shade, but can go to deep brown, and accented by iridescent scales. Hair color reflects the vibrant colors of their tails, often a shade matching their fins in bright yellow, blue, green, reds, purples, and shades in between. Eye color comes in blue, green, gold, red, purple, and various other shades for eye color.

Mariel don't have much skin to cover and aren't very modest, but they do have garb, which often indicates station. There are a lot of metal pieces in their wardrobes, as well as jewelry, and for cloth they have a sheer, gauzy material woven from special plant fibers and often combined with fish scales. Lower class Mariel adorn themselves with bone decorations instead of metal.
